"...I've been involved in hockey for 38 years and in that time I've seen at least 16 arenas built. This facility is the fastest constructed and the nicest building I've seen in my experience across Canada..."

Whistler Telus Conference Centre -
Project Highlights:

Project Summary:

The project consisted of a complete rebuild of all roof structures, upgrading existing electrical and mechanical systems as well as major structural modifications to create an additional 2000 sq.ft. of meeting space. Changes were made to the existing meeting rooms along with additions/conversions to both existing spaces as well as the exterior of the building. TASK also led the design team in addressing the "greening" of the renovations.

The facility also features a fireplace that stands approximately 45 feet high and weighs approximately 100,000 pounds or 50 tons and is covered with local stone. The chimney contains three separate wood burning fireplaces each with a 25 sq. ft. opening and a separate flue so all three or just one fireplace can be burning at any time.

Construction of the Whistler Telus Conference Centre was also conducted using environmentally friendly building practices. Highlights include:

  • The use of corn blasting (ground up corn plants) for the cleaning of existing glulams and the underside of the roof decking.
  • The re-use of roof insulation, doors, hardware and toilet partitions
  • The recycling of all demolished materials
  • The use of reduced carbon-footprint materials in the construction of the facility; low volatile organic compounds (VOC) paints, energy efficient coatings to exterior glass, high efficiency lighting, reflective roofing, and waterless urinals to name a few.
