Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex -
Project Highlights:

Completed: 10 months ahead of schedule
Budget: $62 Million, several million under budget
Features: New, innovative energy exchange system
Programs: All work was completed without program disruption

Project Summary:

This project consists of the construction of 2 new arenas to replace the existing curling facility and arena annex. The existing spectator arena was extended and expanded; modifications included seismic and code upgrades, replacement and extension of the ice slab, development of a new entry lobby, sports hall of fame, public amenity space, concessions and extensive site works adjacent to the building and surrounding lots.

The project also features Thermenex, a technology that allows systems to add or remove heat and store thermal energy. The system is programmed to maximize the efficiency of systems based on changing building needs rather than design parameters chosen by the consultants. Two existing boilers for the aquatic centre are the only boilers for the entire facility, including the adjacent library, which translates into great energy efficiency and significantly lower operating costs.

The project also posed significant scheduling challenges, as all work was performed while maintaining full recreation program operations including Coquitlam Adanac play-offs, the National Lacrosse Tournament and the Minto Cup.
