8-Arm PEG-Maleimide (8-Arm PEG-MAL, 8-arm Poly(ethylene glycol) maleimide) refers to a polyethylene glycol (PEG) derivative with an eight-branched structure and maleimide (MAL) functional groups at the end of each arm. 8 arm PEG derivatives have multiple reactive groups that can be used to modify proteins, peptides and other materials via their functional groups. PEGylation can increase solubility and stability and reduce immunogenicity of peptides and proteins. It can also suppress the non-specific binding of charged molecules to the modified surfaces. By targeting thiol residues, 8-Arm PEG-MAL allows for precise and controlled modification of thiol-containing molecules while minimizing non-specific reactions.
