Magnetic Fe3O4@Mesoporous Silica (Fe3O4@mSiO2) contains Fe3O4 and mesoporous silica. The mesoporous silica shell can be loaded with drugs or therapeutic agents, and the magnetic core facilitates targeted drug delivery. The release of the loaded cargo can be controlled by external stimuli, such as magnetic fields. The Fe3O4 core provides magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast, while the mesoporous silica shell can be functionalized with imaging agents. This dual functionality makes Fe3O4@mesoporous silica nanoparticles useful as multimodal imaging contrast agents.
