Maleimide-PEG-Maleimide (MAL-PEG-MAL) is a homobifunctional polymer with two maleimides which are reactive with thiol group of protein (cysteine) or other thio molecules. It is is used to modify thiol-containing molecules or surfaces, leading to the formation of crosslinked structures or the attachment of functional entities. In addition, it can be incorporated into biomaterials to introduce crosslinking sites, enhance stability, and promote controlled interactions with biological systems.By reacting MAL-PEG-MAL with thiol-containing proteins, researchers can introduce modifications, labels, or other functionalities for various applications, including imaging and diagnostics.
