Folate-PEG-Maleimide (Folic acid-PEG-Maleimide, Folate-PEG-MAL, FA-PEG-MAL) is a chemical compound that combines a folate group, a polyethylene glycol (PEG) linker, and a maleimide (Mal) functional group. It binds strongly with folate receptor, a biomarker for cancerous tissues. The polymer can be used to design a targeted cancer therpy. The maleimide can react with thiol to form a thioether bond. The folate moiety allows strong binding with folate receptor found widely in various malignant cells. Folate-PEG-Mal can be used to create folate-targeted drug delivery systems designed to selectively deliver drugs to cancer cells while minimizing off-target effects by attaching anticancer agents to it.
