Cy3-PEG-Maleimide (Cy3-PEG-MAL) is a chemical compound or molecule that consists of three main components: Cy3, PEG, and Mal. Cy3, also known as Cyanine 3, is a fluorescent dye or fluorophore commonly used in various molecular biology and biochemistry applications. It emits red fluorescence when excited by an appropriate wavelength of light. Mal represents a maleimide functional group (-Mal), which is commonly used for bioconjugation purposes. Maleimide groups readily react with thiol (-SH) groups found in cysteine residues of proteins or other thiol-containing molecules.
