Alkyne-PEG-Maleimide (ALK-PEG-MAL) is a chemical compound commonly used in bioconjugation and molecular biology research. An alkyne is a hydrocarbon molecule containing a triple bond between two carbon atoms. The alkyne functional group (-C≡C-) is known for its ability to react selectively with azides through a copper-catalyzed reaction known as the Huisgen cycloaddition or “click chemistry.” Maleimide is a chemical functional group (-CH₂CHCO-) commonly used in bioconjugation reactions. Maleimides react specifically with thiol (-SH) groups found in cysteine residues of proteins and other thiol-containing molecules, forming covalent bonds known as thioethers.
