Description

DM1 has a complex macrocyclic structure similar to maytansine, characterized by a methoxylated benzene ring and a long aliphatic side chain. This structural motif is responsible for its cytotoxic activity. DM1 has been used as a payload in antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs) for targeted cancer therapy. In ADCs, DM1 is conjugated to monoclonal antibodies that specifically target cancer cells expressing certain cell surface antigens. Upon binding to the target cancer cells, the ADC is internalized, and DM1 is released, exerting its cytotoxic effects selectively within the tumor cells while sparing normal tissues.
