Description

β-Lapachone is a naturally occurring compound found in the bark of the lapacho tree (Tabebuia avellanedae) and several other plants. β-lapachone has been found to inhibit the activity of an enzyme called NAD(P)H:quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1). This enzyme is often overexpressed in cancer cells and plays a role in protecting them from oxidative stress. By inhibiting NQO1, β-lapachone can further increase the levels of ROS within cancer cells, enhancing its anticancer effects.
