Description

DEAE-dextran is a linear polysaccharide polymer with a backbone composed of glucose units linked together by α-1,6-glycosidic bonds. The DEAE groups are attached to some of the hydroxyl groups along the dextran backbone, introducing positively charged quaternary amine groups. The presence of positively charged DEAE groups imparts cationic properties to DEAE-dextran. It can interact with negatively charged molecules, such as nucleic acids, proteins, and cell membranes, through electrostatic interactions.
