DSPC:DSPE-mPEG2000 (95:5) Liposomes can be loaded with contrast agents or imaging probes for diagnostic imaging modalities such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computed tomography (CT), or fluorescence imaging. The stealth properties conferred by DSPE-mPEG2000 prolong circulation time and improve the accumulation of imaging agents at disease sites, enhancing diagnostic accuracy. They can also be engineered to target cancer cells selectively by modifying their surface with targeting ligands or antibodies. DSPC:DSPE-mPEG2000 liposomes have been explored for the delivery of anticancer drugs and therapeutic nucleic acids to tumors, offering improved efficacy and reduced systemic toxicity compared to conventional chemotherapy.
