Description

Biotin-PEG2-amine is a compound consisting of biotin (a vitamin) attached to a polyethylene glycol (PEG) chain (specifically PEG2) terminated with an amine group. This molecule is often used in bioconjugation applications due to its ability to specifically bind to streptavidin or avidin proteins with high affinity. Biotin has a strong binding affinity for streptavidin or avidin proteins, forming one of the strongest non-covalent bonds known in biology. The amine group at the end of the PEG chain serves as a reactive functional group for bioconjugation reactions. It can be selectively reacted with other functional groups, such as carboxylic acids (via amidation) or activated esters (e.g., NHS esters), enabling the covalent attachment of biotin-PEG2 to biomolecules or surfaces.
