Heptakis-(6-Mercapto-6-Deoxy)-β-Cyclodextrin or Heptakis-(6-Mercapto-6-Deoxy)-Beta-Cyclodextrin is a modified form of cyclodextrin, a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of glucose units. In this compound, beta-cyclodextrin is functionalized with thiol (SH) groups at the 6th position of each glucose unit. Beta-cyclodextrin specifically consists of seven glucose units, forming a truncated cone-shaped structure with a hydrophobic cavity. This cavity can accommodate guest molecules of appropriate size and shape through non-covalent interactions, forming inclusion complexes. The modified cyclodextrin can form inclusion complexes with guest molecules that can fit into its hydrophobic cavity. These complexes can be used for solubilization, stabilization, and controlled release of guest molecules, including drugs, dyes, and fragrances.
