THP-SS-PEG1-t-butyl ester can be used to modify the surface properties of nanoparticles, microspheres, or biomaterials. By anchoring this compound onto the surface, it imparts hydrophilicity and biocompatibility, reducing nonspecific interactions with proteins and cells. The thiol-protected group can be deprotected to expose a reactive thiol group, allowing for the attachment of PEG chains or other molecules to create functionalized surfaces with controlled properties.
