Aldehyde-PEG-Aldehyde (CHO-PEG-CHO, ALD-PEG-ALD) can be used in surface patterning techniques, where the aldehyde groups selectively bind to specific functional groups on a surface. This can be applied in the fabrication of microarrays and biosensors. In addition, the aldehyde groups can participate in crosslinking reactions with amine-containing polymers to form hydrogels.
