Description

3,3′-Azodibenzoic acid consists of two benzene rings linked by an azo (-N=N-) bridge, with carboxylic acid groups (-COOH) attached at the 3rd positions on each benzene ring. 3,3′-Azodibenzoic acid and its derivatives are intermediates in the synthesis of azo dyes. Azo dyes are widely used in textiles, paints, and other industries due to their vibrant colors and stability. Besides, the azo linkage in 3,3′-azodibenzoic acid can undergo cleavage upon exposure to UV light, leading to the formation of reactive intermediates that can cross-link polymers. This property is useful in photolithography and photoresist materials used in microelectronics and nanotechnology.
