Phosphine-biotin or 2-(diphenylphosphino)-4-[21-[(3aS,4S,6aR)-hexahydro-2-oxo-1H-thieno[3,4-d]imidazol-4-yl]-1,17-dioxo-6,9,12-trioxa-2,16-diazaheneicos-1-yl]-benzoic acid, methyl ester refers to a molecule where biotin is conjugated to a phosphine group. Phosphine derivatives are known for their ability to participate in bioorthogonal reactions, particularly with compounds containing electrophilic groups such as azides or aldehydes. Phosphine-biotin can participate in click chemistry reactions with azides under mild conditions. This bioorthogonal reaction is highly specific and can be used for site-specific modification of biomolecules.
