Description

Biotin-SS-Sulfo-Osu (N-[[2-(Biotinylamino)ethyl]dithiopropionyloxy]sulfosuccinimide, sodium salt) is used to biotinylate proteins or peptides containing primary amines (e.g., lysine residues). The NHS ester reacts with primary amines to form stable amide bonds, attaching biotin to the biomolecule. The disulfide bond allows for reversible linkage under reducing conditions, facilitating release or exchange of the biotinylated molecule. The SS in Biotin-SS-Sulfo-Osu refers to a disulfide bond (-S-S-), which is a covalent bond formed between two sulfur atoms. Disulfide bonds can be cleaved under reducing conditions, such as with dithiothreitol (DTT) or tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (TCEP), allowing for controlled release or activation of biotinylated molecules.
