OPSS-PEG-Biotin (Biotin-PEG-PDP, Ortho-Pyridyldisulfide-PEG-Biotin) is a versatile compound that combines the specific binding properties of biotin with the flexibility of a PEG spacer and the reactivity of an OPSS disulfide group. OPSS stands for orthopyridyl disulfide, which is a functional group containing a disulfide bond attached to a pyridyl ring. The disulfide bond is reactive and can undergo cleavage under reducing conditions, such as with dithiothreitol (DTT) or tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine (TCEP). This allows for controlled release of the attached molecule or surface modification under specific conditions. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a water-soluble vitamin with a bicyclic ring structure and a ureido ring attached. Biotin is widely recognized for its high affinity binding to avidin and streptavidin proteins, forming one of the strongest non-covalent bonds known in nature.
