Description

Desthiobiotin-PEG7-Azide is a chemical structure that combines desthiobiotin, a modified form of biotin, with a polyethylene glycol (PEG) linker and an azide functional group. Desthiobiotin is a biotin analog that lacks the sulfur atom in the ureido ring compared to biotin. It retains the ability to bind to avidin and streptavidin proteins, albeit with reduced affinity compared to biotin. This property makes it suitable for applications where reversible binding or lower affinity interactions are desired. An azide functional group (-N₃) is widely used in bioconjugation chemistry, specifically in click chemistry reactions. Azides can react selectively and efficiently with alkyne-functionalized molecules (through copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition, CuAAC) or other azide-reactive groups (through strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition, SPAAC) to form stable triazole linkages.
