Biotin-COOMe (methyl 5-[(1S,2S,5R)-7-oxo-3-thia-6,8-diazabicyclo[3.3.0]oct-2-yl]pent anoate) is a derivative of biotin (vitamin B7) in which the carboxylic acid group of biotin is esterified to form a methyl ester. This modification enhances the solubility of biotin in organic solvents and makes it useful in certain bioconjugation applications where the ester group can be hydrolyzed back to the free acid or utilized in further chemical reactions. Biotin-COOMe can serve as an intermediate in the synthesis of more complex biotin derivatives, where the ester group is used for selective reactions before hydrolysis to the free acid. Additionally, the methyl ester can act as a protecting group for the carboxyl group of biotin in multi-step organic syntheses, which can be removed under controlled conditions.
