Carbacyclin is designed to mimic the structure of prostacyclin but with modifications to stabilize the molecule and enhance its pharmacological properties. It typically includes a cyclopentane ring and an aromatic system, substituting some of the oxygen-containing groups found in natural prostacyclin with carbon-based groups.
