Description

TzAuNps (Tetrazine capped-gold nanoparticles) are a class of nanomaterials that combine the unique properties of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with the reactive capabilities of tetrazine ligands. The tetrazine groups are covalently attached to the gold surface, usually via a linker or directly through a sulfur-gold bond (thiol-tetrazine linkage). The tetrazine moiety provides a reactive site for further functionalization or conjugation. TzAuNPs can be used in targeted imaging applications by exploiting the bioorthogonal reactivity of tetrazines. They can be conjugated to strained alkenes or alkynes that are introduced into biological systems, allowing for precise localization and imaging of biomolecules or cells. By combining the optical properties of AuNPs with the reactive nature of tetrazines, TzAuNPs can also be used for theranostic applications, where they provide both therapeutic and diagnostic functions. For example, they can deliver drugs while simultaneously allowing for imaging of the drug delivery process.
