3-Amino-1,2,4-triazole (1,2,4-Triazol-3-amine, 3-AT, Amitrol) is a heterocyclic compound featuring a triazole ring with an amino group positioned at the 3-position. It is used as an active ingredient in certain fungicides. It works by inhibiting the enzyme squalene epoxidase, which is crucial for the synthesis of ergosterol, an essential component of fungal cell membranes. This disrupts the growth and reproduction of fungi. Besides, compounds derived from 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole have been investigated for their potential as anticancer agents. They work by interfering with the growth of cancer cells or modifying cellular pathways involved in cancer progression.
