mPEG-NTA (mPEG-Nitrilotriacetic acid) combines the solubility and biocompatibility of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with the metal-binding properties of nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA). NTA is a chelating agent that forms stable complexes with metal ions, typically nickel (Ni²⁺), which is often used in affinity purification. mPEG-NTA is commonly used in affinity chromatography for the purification of His-tagged proteins. The NTA groups can bind to nickel ions that are immobilized on a column or resin, allowing for the specific capture and elution of proteins with a His-tag.
