Star-shaped Glycidyl azide polymer (S-GAP) are synthesized to have a branched, star-like structure, where multiple polymer chains radiate from a central core. The glycidyl azide monomer provides the azide functional groups, which impart energetic properties to the polymer. Star-shaped GAPs are used in energetic materials due to the high density of azide groups, which contribute to the high energy content of the material. They are used in propellants, explosives, and other high-energy applications. They are also used to explored new materials with tailored properties. The high density of azide groups allows for the development of complex materials through click chemistry or other polymerization techniques.
