2,2′-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (AzBTS-(NH4)2 / Diammonium 2,2′-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonate)) is known for its use in the ABTS assay, which is a colorimetric method for measuring antioxidant activity and enzyme activity. The ABTS assay measures the antioxidant activity of various substances. Antioxidants react with the ABTS radical cation, reducing it and thus decreasing the absorbance of the green-blue color. The change in absorbance can be used to quantify antioxidant activity. ABTS is also used as a substrate in assays to measure the activity of enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of ABTS. This method is used to study enzyme kinetics and functionality.
