Azide Heparin refers to heparin, a highly sulfated glycosaminoglycan, that has been chemically modified to include azide functional groups. Heparin is a complex polysaccharide composed of repeating disaccharide units that include glucuronic acid or iduronic acid and N-sulfated glucosamine. Azide heparin can be used to label heparin and other glycosaminoglycans in cells and tissues. The azide groups allow for specific tagging with bioorthogonal probes, facilitating imaging and tracking of heparin’s distribution and role in biological processes. Other than that, azide heparin can be used to study the functional properties of heparin in anticoagulation. The azide groups enable the creation of modified heparin derivatives to explore how structural changes affect anticoagulant activity.
