CB7 (Cucurbit[7]uril) is a macrocyclic molecule that belongs to the cucurbituril family. It forms a cavity-like structure that can host small guest molecules, such as benzyl azide, through non-covalent interactions. CB7 is known for its high binding affinity and specificity toward various guest molecules, including aromatic compounds. When benzyl azide interacts with CB7, the hydrophobic benzyl group can enter the hydrophobic cavity of CB7, while the azide group typically remains outside the cavity due to its polarity. This inclusion complex results in increased stability of the benzyl azide molecule and provides opportunities for controlling reactivity in chemical reactions.
