Description

Poly(N-vinyl imidazole, quaternized with methyl iodide) is a synthetic polymer that is formed by quaternizing poly(N-vinyl imidazole) with methyl iodide. This chemical modification introduces quaternary ammonium groups onto the polymer, imparting unique properties. It is a cationic polyelectrolyte with positively charged quaternary ammonium groups. It is used in water and wastewater treatment as a coagulant or flocculant to aid in the removal of suspended particles and pollutants. It can also be used to destabilize negatively charged colloidal particles.
