Description

100nm Plain DSPC/CHOL Liposomes (55:45 mol/mol), Lyophilized Powder are suitable for use in drug delivery systems, gene therapy, and vaccine formulations due to their high rigidity, high membrane stability, and controlled drug release properties. DSPC is a saturated phospholipid, consisting of two stearic acid (C18:0) fatty acid chains esterified to a phosphocholine head group. The saturated nature of DSPC’s fatty acids gives the liposome bilayer increased rigidity and thermal stability, especially when compared to liposomes made from unsaturated phospholipids. Cholesterol is a sterol molecule that plays a crucial role in modulating the fluidity, permeability, and rigidity of the lipid bilayer. Cholesterol molecules intercalate between the phospholipid molecules, reducing bilayer permeability and contributing to the structural integrity of the liposome membrane.
