Description

2-(2-Azidoethoxy)acetyl glucosides are modified carbohydrate derivatives where a glucoside (typically derived from glucose) is functionalized with a 2-(2-azidoethoxy)acetyl group. The glucose component of 2-(2-azidoethoxy)acetyl glucosides can target cells that overexpress glucose transporters, such as cancer cells. This makes them useful in drug delivery systems where selective targeting is required. The azidoethoxyacetyl group provides a handle for attaching therapeutic agents or prodrugs using click chemistry. Once inside the cell, the acetyl group could undergo enzymatic hydrolysis, releasing the active drug.
