2,5-Dimethylterephthalic acid or BDC-Me2 or dmbdc or H2BDC-​(CH3)​2 is a compound derived from terephthalic acid, a common building block in the synthesis of polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET). It can be used as a co-monomer in the synthesis of PET, where it replaces a portion of the terephthalic acid units. This modification can result in PET with altered properties, such as reduced melting point, increased amorphous content, and enhanced resistance to crystallization. These modified PET materials may find applications in packaging, textiles, and engineering plastics.
