3-[2-N-(Biotinyl)aminoethyldithio]propanoic Acid (3-((2-(5-((3aS,4S,6aR)-2-Oxohexahydro-1H-thieno[3,4-d]imidazol-4-yl)pentanamido)ethyl)disulfaneyl)propanoic acid, Biotin-SS-COOH) is often used to modify proteins or peptides. The dithio group can react with sulfhydryl (-SH) groups present in cysteine residues of proteins, forming stable disulfide bonds. In drug delivery systems, 3-[2-N-(Biotinyl)aminoethyldithio]propanoic acid can be used to conjugate biotin to drug carriers or nanoparticles.
