3-Azido-2-hydroxypropyl-DO3 (OtBu3) can be used as a contrast agent in MRI. The azide group can be employed to attach imaging agents or targeting moieties, enhancing the specificity and effectiveness of the contrast agent. The azide group allows for click chemistry reactions with targeting ligands or other imaging agents. This can improve the targeting of specific tissues or pathological sites in imaging studies. In addition, the tert-butyl ester groups can be used to protect the carboxylate functionalities during synthesis. After deprotection, the compound can be used to design prodrugs or to modify drugs for specific delivery systems.
