3-Azido-2-hydroxypropyl methacrylate (AHPMA) is a methacrylate derivative where the hydroxypropyl group is substituted with an azide group. Methacrylate ester contains a methacrylate group (a methacrylic acid ester), which is a common monomer used in polymerization. AHPMA can be used as a monomer in the polymerization process to create poly(AHPMA) polymers. The resulting polymers can have azide functional groups along their backbone, which are useful for subsequent chemical modifications. Besides, polymers derived from AHPMA can be used to modify surfaces or materials with azide groups. This allows for the attachment of other molecules or functional groups through click chemistry, creating surfaces with specific properties.
