4,4′-(1,2-ethenediyl)bis-Benzonitrile (4,​4′-​Dicyanostilbene / 4,​4′-​Stilbenedicarbonitri​le / 1,​2-​Bis(4-​cyanophenyl)​ethylene) can be synthesized through various methods, including the reaction of 1,2-dibromobenzene with potassium cyanide followed by decarboxylation, or by the reaction of 1,2-dibromo-4-cyanobenzene with a terminal alkyne in the presence of a palladium catalyst. Compounds containing ethylene linkers, such as 4,4′-(1,2-ethenediyl)bis-Benzonitrile, are valuable precursors for the synthesis of conjugated polymers.
