4,4′-Bisalicylic acid or 3,3′-dihydroxy-[1,1′-biphenyl]-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid or BPDC-(OH)2 is a compound consisting of a biphenyl core where each benzene ring has oxygen atoms attached to both the 4th and 4′- positions, and two carboxylate groups. Biphenyl-based ligands are commonly employed in the synthesis of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) due to their ability to form robust and porous structures. 4,4′-dioxido-3,3′-biphenyldicarboxylate could serve as a linker in the construction of MOFs with tunable porosity and functionality, suitable for applications in gas storage, separation, catalysis, or drug delivery.
