Each phenyl group of the central backbone bears a carboxylic acid group at the 4-position. The conjugated structure of 4′,4”,4”’,4””-(ethene-1,1,2,2-tetrayl)tetrabiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid makes it a promising candidate for use in organic semiconductors. It could be incorporated into organic field-effect transistors (OFETs), organic photovoltaics (OPVs), or organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) as a charge transport material or as part of the active layer.
