4′,5′-bis(4-carboxy-2-methylphenyl)-2,2”-dimethyl-[1,1′:2′,1”-terphenyl]-4,4”-dicarboxylic acid consists of a terphenyl core (a central benzene ring flanked by two phenyl rings) with two carboxylic acid groups attached at positions 4′ and 5′ of one of the phenyl rings, and two more carboxylic acid groups attached at positions 4 and 4” of the other phenyl rings. The presence of carboxylic acid groups makes this compound highly reactive, allowing it to participate in a variety of chemical reactions, including coordination, condensation, and esterification reactions.
