5,5′-[Methylenebis(oxy)]bis[1,3-benzenedicarboxylic acid] or 1,​1-​bis-​[3,​5-​bis(carboxy) phenoxy]​methane consists of two benzene rings connected by an oxygen bridge (-O-), with carboxylic acid groups (COOH) attached to each benzene ring. It is commonly used as a monomer in the synthesis of polyesters, particularly in the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and polybutylene terephthalate (PBT). These polymers have a wide range of applications, including in the manufacture of fibers, films, packaging materials, and engineering plastics.
