8-Arm PEG-Maleimide (8-Arm PEG-MAL, 8-arm Poly(ethylene glycol) maleimide) is a multi-arm PEG derivative that has a maleimide group at each end of the eight arms attached to a hexaglycerol core. The maleimide group selectively reacts with free sulfhydryl groups and SH through Michael addition to form stable carbon-sulfur bonds. 8-arm PEG-MAL can be used for site-specific protein and peptide modification.
