Acrylate-PEG-Maleimide (ACRL-PEG-MAL, α-Acryloyl-ω-maleinidyl poly(ethylene glycol)) typically consists of a PEG chain linked to a maleimide group. The maleimide group is a reactive functionality that selectively reacts with thiol groups (-SH) through a Michael addition reaction. The maleimide group in Acrylate-PEG-Maleimide is highly reactive towards thiol-containing molecules, such as cysteine residues in proteins or synthetic thiol compounds.
