Archaeosine (2-Amino-4,7-dihydro-4-oxo-7-β-D-ribofuranosyl-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-5-carboximidamide / 2-Amino-7-((2R,3R,4S,5R)-3,4-dihydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)tetrahydrofuran-2-yl)-4-oxo-4,7-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine-5-carboximidamide / 7-Formamido-7-deazaguanosine) is a naturally occurring modified nucleoside found in the tRNA of various archaea. It is a unique and less common nucleoside that plays a role in stabilizing the structure of tRNA molecules. Archaeosine plays a critical role in stabilizing the three-dimensional structure of tRNA molecules. It is specifically found in the anticodon loop of tRNA. Archaeosine is also a subject of interest in studies of the evolution of nucleic acids. Its presence in archaea provides insights into the evolutionary adaptations of these organisms.
