Description

Azide-labeled lysozyme is a lysozyme protein that has been modified to include an azide functional group (-N₃). Lysozymes are enzymes that primarily break down the polysaccharide walls of bacteria, particularly by hydrolyzing the β-1,4-glycosidic bonds in peptidoglycans. Azide-labeled lysozyme is widely used in click chemistry for bio-orthogonal labeling. Bio-orthogonal reactions are chemical reactions that occur inside living systems without interfering with native biochemical processes. In addition, azide-modified lysozyme is frequently tagged with fluorescent molecules through CuAAC reactions. This allows researchers to visualize the protein in biological systems using fluorescence microscopy. These studies help in tracking protein movement, interaction with cells, or localization in tissues.
