Description

Biocytin is a compound that consists of biotin (a vitamin B derivative) linked to a lysine residue via an amide bond. Biocytin serves as a substrate for the enzyme biotinidase, which cleaves the bond between biotin and lysine. This cleavage releases free biotin, which can then be utilized in various biochemical reactions, including carboxylation and decarboxylation reactions. It is also important in dietary biotin absorption. After ingestion, biocytin is hydrolyzed by biotinidase in the intestines and tissues to release biotin, which is then absorbed into the bloodstream.
