Description

Biotin caproic acid is a biotin derivative where biotin is linked to a hexanoic acid group. Caproic acid, or hexanoic acid, is a saturated fatty acid with a six-carbon chain (C6). It is a carboxylic acid and is used as a linker or spacer arm in biochemical conjugations and bioconjugation chemistry. Biotin caproic acid facilitates the interaction with streptavidin or avidin proteins, which have an exceptionally high affinity for biotin. This interaction is widely utilized in various biochemical assays, such as Western blotting, ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay), and immunohistochemistry, for detection and quantification purposes.
