Description

Biotin/KLH conjugates involve the chemical attachment of biotin molecules to KLH. This conjugation process typically involves covalent bonding through amide or ester linkages, facilitated by cross-linking reagents such as EDC (1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide) or NHS (N-hydroxysuccinimide) esters. KLH is a large, oxygen-carrying metalloprotein derived from the keyhole limpet, Megathura crenulata. It is composed of multiple subunits, with a molecular weight ranging from several hundred kilodaltons to several megadaltons. KLH is highly immunogenic, making it an excellent carrier protein for haptens and other small molecules. Its large size and complex structure stimulate a strong immune response, which is valuable in vaccine development and antibody production.
