Description

Biotin-PEAC5-maleimide (N-6-(Biotinylamino)hexanoyl-N’-[2-(N-maleimido)ethyl]piperazine, hydrochloride) is used to specifically label proteins or peptides that contain exposed cysteine residues (-SH groups). The maleimide group reacts with these thiols to form stable thioether bonds, resulting in the conjugation of biotin to the target molecule. In biochemical research, this compound is employed for site-specific biotinylation of proteins or peptides. The biotin tag allows for subsequent detection or purification using streptavidin or avidin-based affinity methods (e.g., Western blotting, ELISA, immunoprecipitation). PEAC5 is a polyethylene glycol-based linker that includes an amine (-NH₂) and a carboxylate (-COOH) group. This linker provides flexibility and water solubility to the molecule.
